Cambridge Tops 2009 Best Places to Work List
November 13, 2009 – 12:23 pm | No Comment

bestplacestoworkCambridge placed 10 companies on the recent list compiled by the Boston Globe for Top Places to Work in 2009.  The top companies in Massachusetts based on the Globe’s survey were ranked for the Top 100 as well as other lists including breakdowns for large employers, midsize employers and small employers.  Harmonix ranked an impressive 3 on the Top 100 list and Google ranked number 10.  Harmonix, Google and BBN Technologies ranked 1, 4 and 10 respectively on the Top MidSize Employer list.

Though Cambridge does not reflect 10% of the Massachusetts population it isn’t a surprise that 10% of the companies are either based in Cambridge or have a significant presence in Cambridge.  The 10 companies represent a range of industries including:

  • Video Games
  • Software
  • Technology Research and Development
  • Health Care
  • Life Sciences
  • Biotechnology
  • Engineering Consultants

The companies were evaluated based on surveys across 6 areas.  The six factors considered were:

  • Direction
  • Execution
  • Managers
  • Career
  • Conditions
  • Pay and Benefits

During these recessionary times I was curious to see whether the Top 10 Cambridge Companies on this list were actually hiring.  If they aren’t now hopefully they will be soon.  Here is the list with links to their job lists if they have them…

Harmonix Music Systems

10  Google

26  BBN Technologies

48  Vertex Pharmaceuticals

56  Microsoft Corp

68  Genzyme

71  Millenium:  The Takeda Oncology Company

83  Institute for Healthcare Improvement

90  AVEO Pharmaceuticals

100  CDM

Let’s see how many more Cambridge companies can make the list next year!
