Sunday is supposed to be sunny and though we have needed the rain because of the unusual winter the weather has been a bit of a downer this week. The annual MayFair festival is going to take place this Sunday May 6th and it is a great opportunity to get back into the spring mood. The festival starts at 12pm with music performances starting at the main stage with the last performance at 5:20pm.
The MayFair festival is more than just music though with: The 29th Annual Mayfair in Harvard Square features music, dancing, food, crafts, street art, beer gardens and entertainment for all ages.
Two other things I found of interest are the Chalk Art celebration and the Get Growing! urban agricultural information area. My kids love art so getting to observe some of their work will be great for them. As for urban agriculture I think this a great time to be exploring how to grow things like vegetables even in the city environment of Cambridge. Whether you want to grow them to save money or as a hobby now is the time to learn. I am sure you will be able to pick up some urban agriculture tips and tricks.
A full listing of the schedule of the MayFair entertainment line up and events can be found at the Harvard Square website. Whether you are attending or not if you are passing through Harvard Square on Sunday this will be the commotion.
The Mallett Brothers are going to be closing out the Main Stage on Sunday. They are an alternative country rock band and per their bio:
The Mallett Brothers Band swept the top categories at the 2011 Portland Phoenix’s Best Music Awards, winning Best Local Act, Best Live Act, and Best Local Album. Their fall 2010 performance at the National Underground in NYC was listed among the “Best Shows of 2010″ by the award-winning music blog Hidden Track, and their debut album was named the Top New Local Album (Maine and New Hampshire) of 2010 by Bull Moose Music, after spending nearly a full year on the weekly Top 10 Local Album chart.
Here is a video of one of their songs. Let’s get out and celebrate Spring in Cambridge.
