jazzThe Berklee Beantown Jazz Festival is officially starting up this weekend.  The Regatta Bar will be hosting Ahmad Jamal as the first entertainer in the festival.  The Ragatta Bar is located in Harvard Square’s Charles Hotel.

The Festival is a week long event from tomorrow Friday September 18th to Saturday September 26th.  The event culminates in a free outdoor festival on the corner of Mass Ave and Columbus Ave in Boston on Saturday the 26th.

The Berklee College of Music has produced some well known Jazz musicians including the Branford Marsalis who will be performing on Wednesday at the Berklee Performance Center.

Another venue that is close to Cambridge is Scullers Jazz Club just across the river at Harvard-owned Doubletree Guest Suites on Soldier’s Field Road.  This club is pretty famous and I am glad Harvard hasn’t changed it since it bought it.  I remember going there with my sister many years ago to see Harry Connick Jr. when he was just becoming famous.  Kurt Ellings will be singing there next Friday and Saturday and is part of the festival.

Please note that some of the performances require that you purchase tickets so check out the official schedule to buy tickets.
