Cambridge River Festival – Free For All

Cambridge River Festival 20102011 Cambridge River Festival Update:

The annual festival is back for the 32nd time this year and I wanted to update you with the links to both the list of scheduled activities and events for 2011 as well as for the Figment side of the event that is also taking place this weekend Saturday June 4th.  The Figment event takes place on Sunday as well but will now be on the Rose Kennedy Greenway in Boston instead of Cambridge.  Last year my family and I attended the Cambridge River Festival and there was more than enough to see and do on the Charles River.  Enjoy and here are the links to the details:

Last Year’s Post good for general information about the events:

The Cambridge side of the Charles River is set to be the location of a spectacular afternoon of music and fun this Saturday.  The 31st Annual Cambridge River Festival is set to take place.  Cambridge is well-known for it’s appreciation for art which is why way back in 1974 the City established the Cambridge Arts Council which puts on this event.

People come from not only Cambridge but the surrounding cities and towns as well.  Bostonians make the trek across the river to the “party” side of the river.  One of the attractions of the event is that it is free for all.  Who is going to turn down free entertainment nowadays.

Though the entertainment is free the food is not so make sure to plan to take advantage of the opportunities to try some different international foods from the food vendors.  You will also be able to check out some arts and crafts that will be for sale as well.

The event takes place all along the stretch of Memorial Drive from JFK St. to Western Ave.  The events are broken up between stages and other locations so you should be sure to review the performance schedule to make sure to get to see what you want.  If you are bringing children be sure to check out the happenings on the Family & Children Stage.  My favorites tend to be in the music and dance areas so I hope to catch some of the performances there.

For more art activities to participate in this summer check out the Cambridge Art Council website.

A new addition to the Cambridge River Festival this year is FIGMENT.  It seems to be a combination of performance art and interactive art.  It will be taking place in conjunction with the festival.

Here is a video about FIGMENT as it took place in NYC.  It will be interesting to see what FIGMENT Boston will be like.
