The rumors are true.  Trader Joe’s is opening another Cambridge store which will be located at the Fresh Pond Mall.  It will be next to the totally remodeled CVS where Kappy’s used to be.

This past weekend I stopped in to get an updated view at the changes that were being completed since I last visited.  The Fresh Pond Mall facelift is almost done(at least on the CVS side).  It appears all that is left is to finish the Trader Joe’s and a TD Bank Branch and they will be done.

According to Mike at the Memorial Drive Trader Joe’s they hope to have the new store opened up by Thanksgiving.  As the picture in the post indicates they are in the process of hiring.  Folks are actually directed to an open area next to Sav-Mor to fill out job applications.  Though it seems Trader Joe’s is could compete with Whole Foods across the “street” I think they offer enough different food options that they will attract more than just the Whole Foods crowd.

The addition of Trader Joe’s should definitely bring more traffic to that side of the Fresh Pond Malls not just from Cambridge but from Belmont and other nearby towns.
