bostonbreakerswebsiteThe Boston Breakers bring women’s professional soccer to the Boston area this weekend at Harvard Stadium.  Whether you live in Boston, Cambridge or the other surrounding towns it is a great opportunity to catch professional level soccer close by.  The other option is Gillette Stadium and the Revolution but we have only made the trip down there to see David Beckham.

Women’s Professional Soccer does not get as much publicity as it deserves.  Similar to the WNBA professional soccer for women has had its ups and downs.  The Boston Breakers was a charter member of the Women’s United Soccer Association which “disbanded” back in 2003.  The WPS seasons started last year though the league was started back in 2007.  The WPS is made up of 8 teams but is looking for more investors to bring more teams into the fold.

The Boston Breakers home opener is this Sunday at 6pm against the Philadelphia Independence.  They come into the game with a 1-0 record having won their first game against the Washington Freedom last week.  Prices range from %15 – $27 dollars.  This could be a great option for a family outing this weekend since April Vacation is next week.  I was surprised to find you can even book Birthday Parties for girls under 14.  Soccer continues to be very popular among kids sports so as the girls progress it is great to bring them to a professional level soccer game.

The team seems pretty focused and excited about winning their first game.  Hopefully the streak will continue.  Here is a video from one of the team players Alex Scott after the win.
