The 8th annual Independent Film Festival opens in Boston tonight with an appearance by Kevin Kline.  Kevin Kline will be appearing after the showing of the comedy film The Extra Man in which he also stars.  I am a long time fan of Kline admiring his range of acting.  Though he is better known for his comedy work I will never forget his performance in Sophie’s Choice.  The Extra Man is being shown at the Somerville Theatre in Davis Square.

The Independent Film Festival Boston was started back in 2002 to showcase Independent Films and to attract Independent Film makers to the Boston Area.  The Film Festival is more than just going to watch the films which are shown at Theatres like the Somerville Theatre in Davis Square and the Brattle Theatre here in Cambridge.

The festival is a selection of movies made outside the Hollywood studio system. IFFBoston is a mix of features, documentaries, and shorts with ticket prices lower than what it costs to see most first-run movies.

You can not only buy tickets to shows but you can buy passes that include access to parties and events where you can mingle with actors and film makers.  Sadly the passes are currently sold out but you can still get tickets to shows.  The other venues are the ICA in Boston and Coolidge Corner Theatre in Brookline.

If you are a real film buff you can use the IFFBoston website to buy tickets to multiple movie showing and print out the schedule.  The Festival runs from tonight April 21 to April 28th(next Wednesday).
