Martin Luther King Day of Service Cambridge, MAAre you ready for the 2nd Annual MLK Day of Service?  Next Monday is Martin Luther King Day and for the second year Cambridge is joining in on a national movement where people volunteer there time to serve others in their communities.

There is no denying that the last few years have been a strain on those in need all over the country including Cambridge.  Last year the event brought from 400 – 500 people who made items like blankets and scarves and collected books, food and clothing that were distributed across agencies serving the Cambridge community.

Martin Luther King Jr. gave much more than an afternoon of his time to help others so here is a chance to help our own community here in Cambridge.

The event takes place in Central Square:

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:

2-5 pm in Central Square
1:30-2:15     Check in & welcome on City Hall steps. Award-winning singer-actress & Cambridge resident Valerie Stephens will sing at our welcome gathering (2:00).

2:15-5:00     Participate in hands-on projects at either of our 2 locations: YWCA (7 Temple St) or Cambridge Senior Center (806 Mass Ave.) Visit our volunteer expo to find out where you can help out the other 364 days of 2012.

More information can be found on the event’s official site.  The event is free but registration would help the event organizers plan better.

Here is a video from last year’s Cambridge MLK Day of Service that shows how much of an impact this type of volunteer event can make.  Hope to see you there!
