It’s no surprise that celebrities like to extend their brand. Big Papi of the Red Sox is doing just that. Big Papi otherwise known as David Ortiz is set to open a restaurant in Framingham this Friday, July 24th. Big Papi’s Grille will serve upscale casual quisine including high quality steaks, Kobe beef burgers and pasta dishes. This according to a press release issued yesterday.

David Ortiz is a financial partner with Classic Restaurant Concepts that was running the restaurant as Metro 9 Steak House. Classic Restaurant Concepts also owns the restaurant Asgard here in Cambridge.

Of course Big Papi’s Grille will feature Big Papi memorabilia. Ortiz who lives in the area will surely pull in the crowds if he is a regular at the restaurant. The restaurant will keep Scott Olson as the head chef at Metro 9 who was also chef at the well-known Upstairs on the Square in Cambridge.

David Ortiz has to be the most visible of the Boston Red Sox players. I have seen him at least 3 times just in the course of life(the airport and a concert or 2). He lends his name to his childrens fund and has launched a Hot Sauce line. I saw him with Mary Richardson on Chronicle who I believe was tasting the Big Papi En Fuego Hot Sauce which is translated as Big Papi “On Fire” Hot Sauce.

Good luck catching a glimpse of Big Papi in Framingham!  You may want to check out the website for details I’m sure the opening will be packed.
