If you are not from Cambridge and try to drive somewhere through Memorial Drive on Sunday you will be in for a surprise.  The DCR (Department of Conservation) closes Memorial Drive Down on Sundays from 11:00am to 7:00pm.  Many Cantabrigians and non-Cantabrigians use this stretch of road from Western Avenue to Mount Auburn street to enjoy summer sports.  From bike riders to joggers and rollerbladers people come to take advantage of this annual tradition.

This stretch of Memorial Drive is very picturesque.  Overlooking the Charles and shaded by many trees it is a great summer outing in the summer and even early fall.  This weekend may be a problem if Hurricane Bill throws some rain at us but I would definitely plan to visit one of these Sundays before the road reopens to traffic after Sunday November 2nd.

This may not be the best place to teach your children to ride a bike.  We actually took them out to Memorial Drive prematurely last year.  The curbsides can be dangerous and some of the other joggers, bikers and rollerbladers seem to get annoyed…
