Cambridge Mass Winter's Farmer Market Cambridge now has Winter Season Farmers Market that will fill the gap until the usual Farmers Market Season.  This is a welcome addition given the need for healthy food to help with the national obesity issues our country faces.

The market will be housed in the gym of the Cambridge Community Center on Callender Street.  Besides the food vendors which is the norm for Farmers markets there is also going to be:

The market also features an art gallery, live music, food demos, visits from the New England Aquarium, the Museum of Science, and other fun & educational activities.

I think this approach of making it more of an entertainment experience will help get more people out in the Winter months.  Though there will not be musical performers at every one, tomorrow’s market will have Adela and Jude performing and The Pennies will be performing next weekend.

Winter Farmers Markets are another great way to support local farmers and continue to maintain a healthier diet.  Even Boston has added one in Codman Square in Dorchester.   Both Cambridge and Boston locations are in underprivileged areas that may not have the best access to healthier foods and given that  Electronic Benefit Transfer cards are accepted  people can use a portion their SNAP(formerly known as Food Stamps) benefits toward purchases.  Be sure to ask about a matching program that will match up to $10 of purchases.

Be sure to check out the official Cambridge Winter Farmers Market schedule for full vendor list as well as what other activities will be held.  The market is scheduled through April 28th.

Here is a preview of some of the music you have to look forward to from The Pennies:
