vacancyHave you waited until the last second to book your hotel for Harvard’s or MIT’s graduation?  If you ask someone on the street odds are they will tell you that all of the closest ones are booked.  Don’t despair we’ve just checked and there are still vacancies.  Unfortunately the vacancies are in the more expensive, bigger hotels in the Cambridge area.  If you had done some planning you may have been able to consider cheaper options like Bed and Breakfasts in the area.

Harvard University is having their commencement next Thursday June 4th but the family activities start on Tuesday.  Most families come to the Cambridge area for the week and make it a bit of a vacation as well.  MIT(Massachusetts’ Institute of Technology) is having their commencement ceremonies the next day Friday June 5th.

Though it would appear that everyone is competing for the same hotel space that isn’t necessarily true.  Harvard mentions the closest hotels to Harvard Yard while MIT considers the ones closest to the Charles River side more convenient to them.  I have included the closest ones in the list below:

Harvard University Hotels (closer to Harvard Yard)

Harvard Square Hotel

Inn at Harvard

Sheraton Commander Hotel

MIT Hotels (closer to Massachusetts Institute of Technology)

Cambridge Marriott Hotel

Hyatt Regency Hotel

The Kendall Hotel

Cambridge itself has close to 20 hotels that are a cab ride or a bus trip to both the Harvard and MIT campuses so there isn’t a need to despair if the hotel you want is booked.  Keep in mind that you could also try hotels in Boston but you aren’t going to get too much of a price break there.  The good news is that the graduations for most of the Boston based colleges and universities have already happened.  One hotel to add to your consideration is Doubletree Guest Suites which is right over the Cambridge line across the Charles River.

If money is a consideration(and most of the time it is) you may want to consider hotels in the towns surrounding Cambridge.  Somerville, Arlington, Newton, Waltham are the ones that come to mind.
